So far, May 12, 2025, has been a good day to be Donald Trump… and a good day to be an American.

After Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the framework of a trade deal with China that includes a reciprocal 90-day tariff rollback from 125% to just 10%, the stock market reacted accordingly with the Dow Jones Industrial Average opening up more than 1,000 points before receding a bit. Where it closes at the end of the day is anyone’s guess, but I am willing to bet it will finish in the black.

Meanwhile, Hamas has announced that they plan to release the last remaining American hostage, Edan Alexander, today as a goodwill gesture toward the Trump administration. Hamas is hoping that Alexander’s release will jumpstart ceasefire talks with Israel… and it certainly can’t hurt.

Speaking of peace negotiations, President Trump announced Saturday on Truth Social that India and Pakistan have agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire” thanks to backchannel diplomacy led by U.S. mediators that brought the two nuclear powers back from the brink of full-scale war, at least temporarily.

Back on the home front, President Trump plans to sign an executive order today designed to drastically reduce drug prices. “I will be signing one of the most consequential Executive Orders in our Country’s history,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Prescription Drug and Pharmaceutical prices will be REDUCED, almost immediately, by 30% to 80%. I will be instituting a MOST FAVORED NATION’S POLICY whereby the United States will pay the same price as the Nation that pays the lowest price anywhere in the World.”

(President Trump attempted to institute a similar policy in the waning days of his first administration but was temporarily blocked by a federal judge. His policy was then rescinded by the Biden administration.)

All you need to know about the potential benefits of President Trump’s executive order is that Big Pharma is against it, claiming that reducing their record profits will negatively affect research and development. Or maybe, as RFK Jr. is proposing, Americans will start eating better and exercising more so we become less drug-dependent. Wouldn’t that be nice?

I, for one, would absolutely love being able to watch TV without seeing a single pharmaceutical commercial.

Last, but not least, the royal family of Qatar has reportedly offered a $400 million luxury jet – described as a “palace in the sky” – to be used as a new Air Force One. The two 747s currently being used for that purpose date back to the 1990s and plans to replace them have run into countless delays. Apparently, Qatar’s lavish gift is 100% legal because it will be given to the U.S. Air Force and then signed over to President Trump’s presidential library foundation before the end of his term in office.

When you’re on a roll, everything seems to fall into place… even $400 million jumbo jets.
