Who Is Laura Loomer and Why Does She Have So Much Influence?
Monday, May 19, 2025
Until recently, like the rest of America, I had never heard of Laura Loomer. After all, the native of Tucson, Arizona, who turns 32 this week, has a very short list of accomplishments.
Whereas Loomer ran for Congress in 2020 and 2022, she lost handily both times… and her resume is devoid of any real work history other than “political activist” or “an investigative journalist who never backs down” as she describes herself on her website.
“I fearlessly expose the truth, take on corruption, and champion America First principles,” Loomer goes on to say without a hint of false modesty. “Big tech tried to censor me, but I’m unstoppable.”
Loomer got that last part right because she has been banned from Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (although Elon Musk reinstated her X account when he bought the company.) Other platforms that have tossed Loomer include PayPal, GoFundMe, and Venmo… and she has also been told to take a hike by both Uber and Lyft.
How come, you ask? Well, it may have something to do with Loomer describing herself as a “proud Islamophobe” and a “proud white nationalist” and then making enough public statements to back up both claims. Loomer has subsequently sued most of the above companies for violating her First Amendment rights, only to lose in court or to have the cases dismissed altogether.
Among Loomer’s other “claims to fame” are insisting that the 2018 school shootings in Parkland, FL and Sante Fe, TX were staged and that Casey DeSantis, wife of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, exaggerated her battle with breast cancer to boost her husband's presidential campaign.
Unfounded and pretty despicable, if you ask me.
Loomer also accused the Deep State of using a high-power radio frequency transmitter to cause a winter storm before the 2024 Iowa Caucuses to help Nikki Haley’s chances. That July, Loomer posted on X that “Joe Biden is dying and final preparations are being made for him” followed by an allegation two months later that Springfield, Ohio was overrun with “20,000 cannibalistic Haitians”.
She also downplayed the severity of COVID-19, writing in December 2019 that "I hope I get COVID just so I can prove to people I've had bouts of food poisoning that are more serious and life-threatening than a hyped-up virus". However, when Loomer contracted the disease in September 2021, she announced on social media that she was in great pain and requested prayer.
So, did all these wild accusations get Loomer committed to the loony bin? After all, she went as far as tweeting last year that if Kamala Harris, who is half-East Indian, were elected President "the White House will smell like curry & White House speeches will be facilitated via a call center." Even Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene, known for making some outlandish comments of her own, called Loomer’s remarks “appalling and extremely racist”. Greene went on to say that Loomer was "mentally unstable and a documented liar".
Nuthouse, no. 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, yes.
Ms. Loomer’s history of conspiracy theories, offensive comments, and radical alt-right positions has somehow given her priority access to the Oval Office and Air Force One. In fact, she appears to have gained President Trump’s ear… as well as his trust.
Exhibit A is an April 2nd meeting that Loomer had with President Trump at the White House where she argued that several of his staffers were not sufficiently committed to his agenda. The following day, President Trump fired the director of the National Security Agency and his deputy as well as six members of the U.S. National Security Council.
Coincidence? I don’t think so.
Exhibit B was President Trump’s decision to withdrawal the nomination of Dr. Janette Nesheiwat as Surgeon General after Loomer publicly criticized Nesheiwat for misrepresenting her medical credentials and making favorable comments about vaccines.
I don’t know how Laura Loomer has so quickly ingratiated herself into President Trump’s inner circle but frankly, I am disturbed by it. Her all-too-rapid ascent and outsized influence reminds me of Grigori Rasputin, the Russian mystic who became a close advisor to Nicholas II, the last Emperor of Russia, and his wife Alexandra. As history records, that association didn’t end well for Rasputin, the imperial family, or the Russian Empire.
Just saying…
