The Biblical Scores Are In… Garden State Version
Friday, May 15, 2026
The Center for Biblical Business – a branch of the Christian Employers Alliance – has released its 2026 Biblical Business Index, and some Garden State lawmakers didn’t fare very well.
The BBI is a comprehensive faith-based policy platform that monitors and interprets federal and state policies through a faith-based lens – understanding not only what the laws say, but how they align with biblical truth. It then measures how individual legislators, their positions, and their votes coincide with Scripture.
Leading the pack in Washington D.C. is Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), who was the only member of Congress to receive a 100% rating. Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Rep. Eric Burlson (R-MO), Rep. Elijah Crane (R-AZ), and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) rounded out the top five, each with a score of 98% or higher.
Other notable names included Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) at 94.6%; Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) at 93%; Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) at 91.3%; and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), both at 91.2%. All the above officeholders finished in the top 30 out of 535.
As far as New Jersey’s congressional contingent, let’s just say that – with the exception of the three Republican congressmen – they laid one big collective egg.
Representing New Jersey in the U.S. Senate, Cory Booker and Andy Kim embarrassed themselves by receiving scores of 10.34% and 8.72%, respectively. Booker placed 335th in Congress and Kim came in 363rd.
OUCH!
And yet, those numbers were actually better than any of New Jersey’s nine Democratic representatives, none of whom topped 10% with the lone exception of Josh Gottheimer (D-5), who managed a 19% rating. Disgracing themselves in descending order were Nellie Pou (D-9) at 9.69%; Herb Conaway (D-3) at 8.56%; Donald Norcross (D-1) at 7.81%; Frank Pallone (D-6) at 5.73%; and Robert Menendez (D-8) at 4.85%.
Then there was a two-way tie for “how low can you go”, with both LaMonica McIver (D-10) and Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12) clocking in at a dismal 4.41%. In case you’re wondering, that abysmal score ranked them in a tie for 492nd place out of 535.
What a bunch of moral reprobates!
Thankfully, there were three glowing exceptions – all Republicans – and here is how they fared: Jeff Van Drew (R-2) at 77.88%; Chris Smith (R-4) at 76.79%; and Tom Kean Jr. (R-7) at 70.48. Rep. Kean ranked in the middle of the congressional pack at #264, while Rep. Smith placed 206th and Rep. Van Drew climbed to 189th position.
Well done, gentlemen! I suggest you gift your fellow members of Congress from New Jersey a Bible and a copy of the U.S. Constitution.
Editor’s Note: Rep. Analilia Mejia (D-11) has not been in office long enough to receive a rating.
